In Craig, we have the campus of Colorado Northwestern Community College. Unless they have FINALLY gotten around to addressing this issue, a significant number of the computers are now over 13 years old and based on the last information available, there is no budget to replace these computers. Many of the classes are taught remotely and the students are expected to start and stop the remote classes. CNCC does not think it is important to provide a room proctor to start and stop remote classes and as such, this duty falls to the students attending the class.
Approximately 50% of the student body of CNCC Campus are High School students. These students are referred to as CO-ENROLLMENT students. These students receive college credit for the CNCC courses they pass. If these students schedule wisely, they can receive their Associates Degree on the same day they receive their High School Diploma. These students are transported from Moffat County High School to CNCC campus for class and the returned to MCHS. IF the class is remote and CNCC does not provide a room proctor to start, stop, and monitor these classrooms, why are MCHS students transported to the CNCC campus? Wouldn’t it make much more sense for these students to join these remote classes from MCHS instead? Without the co-enrollment students, CNCC Craig would not have enough students to operate. Moffat County School District funds these co-enrollment classes.
The Rangely campus is 98.5 miles away from the Craig campus. The Steamboat Springs campus of Colorado Mountain College is located approximately 43 miles from the Craig campus. If classes are going to be remote anyway, I believe that it would be highly beneficial to MCHS students to have the option to attend classes in Steamboat Springs (where the computers are updated every 4 to 5 years) or attend remotely. Colorado Mountain College provides remote instruction between it many campuses so they are quite capable of providing high quality remote instruction. CNCC is the only game IN town when it comes to a traditional college classroom, but it is NOT the only option. MCSD should definitely consider partnering with Colorado Mountain College in Steamboat Springs with regards to co-enrollment.
